ESL Program and/or Support Services

The English Language Program (ELP) at Georgia Southern University provides top quality ESL classes within a student centered learning environment. The ELP is dedicated to helping students improve their English language skills while experiencing life in the United States. Georgia Southern also provides conditional admission for students who seek university admission but require additional ESL classes through our English Language Program.

The Office of International Student Programs and Services serves the needs of Georgia Southern’s international student population. The professional staff of this office ensures international students are supported, providing visa assistance, orientation services, and coordinates many fun programs that foster cross-cultural understanding and exchange.

Student Housing Options

Georgia Southern has a number of on-campus housing options for students, ranging from traditional style to apartment style. The typical student living on-campus has a private bedroom and shares a bathroom with one other student. International students usually opt to live in the International Living/Learning Community of Centennial Place. Centennial Place is the newest residence hall at Georgia Southern and is located in the center of campus.

Students who wish to live off-campus have a number of options available, with many apartment complexes located within walking distance of the campus.

Admission Requirements for First Year and Transfer Students

Georgia Southern requires SAT and/or TOEFL scores for first year applicants. Transfer students should submit TOEFL scores. Conditional admission can be awarded to students who meet all admission requirements except for English proficiency.

Student Activities and Campus Life

International students enjoy life at Georgia Southern! An active International Student Club sponsors weekly activities designed just for international students. In addition, there are over 200 other student organizations to join, ranging from cultural groups, political organizations, academic societies, religious groups, volunteer services, and fraternities and sororities.

Nationally ranked sports programs, including a national championship American football team, and a recently renovated award-winning Recreation Activities Center are enjoyed by all students.
